Hi all,

It's been a while since I have posted. I have been receiving ALOT (thousands) of spam comment posts to the website links so I have coded up a nice little spam bot checker.

You must type in the code every time before you post, which will stop spam bots from posting, thats unless if they sit and type the code in manually which is not likely.

Jon's technical support favourites is now Tech Support Favourites. We have moved to our own domain tsf.net.au. Hope you like the changes! There are alot of glitches to fix in the design, please be patient - thanks.

I have been playing with different colours in CSS.

Created an urgent links page. This is handy for onsite jobs if you need a quick link such as wpa2 update, office 2007 compatibility update etc rather then searching around wasting time!

- Moved my tech blog to a new url http://blog.jk.net.au
- This also means the rss feed has moved. Go to the blog site and copy the new rss feed url.
- Now new posts between 0 - 7 days will display with a 'new' icon.
- Sites with over 130 hits will display with a 'hot' icon.

- Addition of Site Stats. Lots of useless stats to look at! I personally love reading stats.

Hi all, here are some updates:

- Removed Jon's Tech Help. I don't have the time to answer all tech questions and so decided to delete the page.

- Added a Handy Tech Tools area. Be sure to have a look in there!

More updates to present to you! These include:

- Addition of Jon's Tech Help. I called Microsoft to find out they charge AUD$390 to troubleshoot & resolve a problem with their products. They were actually very good at solving the problem and waived the $390 due to a simple update needed.

I thought if I could setup a similiar site where anyone can post a tech question and I would answer it for free (If I have a correct answer). Donations of course would be welcomed!

I will trial this and see how it goes. Perhaps I could setup a web based section so certain members could solve other peoples problems through this site and if they answer lots of questions correctly donations could be sent to those people via this site. Just a thought!

- Added ability so only those who sign up can add links. I have had some spam

You may have seen many changes since the last update! These include:

- You can now register your own account and login. Once logged in we can
recognise users who want to post sites and add comments.
- Worked out little login box up top left.
- Must be logged in to post links to the database. This will prevent some spam (unless they sign up). IP banning to come soon! :)
- At the moment non users can leave comments.
- Display top posters
- Display top 50 links clicked on
- Changed colours and fonts
- Display no of hits for every link
- Ability to leave comments for every link.
- Show no of members on front page.

Bugs:

- Latest links is not accurate. Some of the db is in a .csv file and this needs to be placed into the mysql db. I will get around to this eventually. Once the data is in mysql I can easily sort by date of post.

- I will be developing the ability to login which will give users the ability to have recognition of being in the top 50 hits so we can see what links are popular and who likes the links. I will add more features such as the ability to have an avatar etc. This site has been built from ground up but now I have more skills in using php with mysql so there are many things to look forward to!

- The login feature will also cut down on abuse such as people clicking on lots of links to corrupt the scores.

- Website clicks are now counted and will show for each website link.
- Top links can now been shown. The title cant be shown at the moment because I need to transfer all of the links from a csv to the mysql db. That is on the to-do list.

After some great feedback from people at Digg and Stumbleupon I have changed the site layout. I have removed alot of the categories and merged them into existing ones. I have also added the amount of links on the side of each category.

- Today changed whats new page to blogger. Easier to update then editing the index php. RSS of whats new page is now supported (see link on the right).

- What's new section created!
- Creation of a new Jons knowledge base area. I have discovered some nice tech articles on the web have been disappearing/going down so to resolve this issue I have created my own knowledge base! All good articles will be archived on my website to prevent good knowledge from disappearing into cyberspace!
- KB Search on the main page. Type in the kb number and it will quickly find the kb article. Good if you want to tell a colleague to search for a certain fix.
- Fixed links using mod_rewrite. Now the urls are a bit more neater and might be indexed better with Google.
- Updated RealVNC files.
