HP OfficeJet Pro 8610 – Vertical line when scanning

I have a HP OfficeJet Pro 8610 and have been scanning documents for a while now. An annoying line has been appearing vertical across the whole A4 page.

I never thought too much about it and ignored it, until I had some spare time and wanted to try and fix it.

Example below:

Solution:

The issue may be caused by a small spec on the ADF scanner glass. This is the thin glass to the left of the flatbed scan glass.

When scanning from the flatbed the sensor moves across the bed. When using the ADF the sensor is moved to the thin glass to the left and the paper is moved past the sensor by the ADF.

If you have an issue with the ADF try wipe and clean the glass on the left of the flatbed. Use a soft lint-free cloth.

If it’s occurring on the normal flatbed scanner then wipe and clean the glass.

This fix will help you with other model scanners as well. Make sure to clean the glass where the document/photo is scanned.
