iPerf is a tool for measuring bandwidth for links on IP networks. It supports TCP,UDP, SCTP with IPv4 and IPv6.
There is a client and server functionality where you create a data stream to measure the throughput between two ends.
Slack is a team communication tool similar to IRC (Internet Relay Chat). You can join channels, send direct message and create/join private groups.
It’s easy to share files, search through channels and chat to your work colleagues.
The free version allows 10,000 of the most recent messages to be viewed and searched.
Slack integrates with many third party services such as Google Drive, Trello, GitHub, Dropbox and a few others.
It also has an API which allows users to create apps and automate processes such as sending automatic notifications based on human input, sending alerts on specific conditions or allowing server apps to send data into the Slack Channel automatically.
If you haven’t heard of Ninite, you are going to love it. The Ninite website allows you to tick boxes of commonly installed free apps and run an exe which will install them all for you automatically one after the other. Especially handy for when you are setting up a new PC.
Free apps can be installed such as Chrome, 7Zip, Skype, Discord, Google Backup, VLC, Audacity, Spotify, Java, Google Earth, Steam, KeePass, IrfanView, Foxit Reader, WinDirStat, AVG and Malwarebytes to name a few.
Wireshark is a free and open source packet analyzer. It’s commonly used for network analysis and troubleshooting packets.
Angry IP Scanner is an open source cross platform network scanner. It can scan IP address ranges and ports.
Very handy if you are working in an unknown network and need to find out which IP addresses are in use.
9. Check MK
Check MK can be installed to monitor your network infrastructure. If any device, server or network hardware supports SNMP then the data can be pulled into Check MK allowing you to monitor if a server is up/down, network traffic, printer toner levels, router graphs and a lot more.
